Long Range Dry Firing Indoors: An Unexpected Solution

Hunting rifles and dry firing? Indoors? Within a space of 4 to 16 yards? Without making any modifications to your rifle? At first glance, it sounds like an impossible combination. But at LaserHIT, we’ve made it not only possible but also practical and effective. Our team worked tirelessly to create a system that enables you to set up a firing range in just minutes, practice long-range shooting with 0.1MOA precision, and refine your skills using scientifically supported tools. With the LaserHIT system, you can train for distances from as close as 3 yards to as far as a mile.

How It Works

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

A well-lit room to ensure your device’s camera can clearly see the target.
Your rifle is unloaded and out of the safe.
A laser LR-HD cartridge was inserted into the rifle's barrel.
Focus adapter for your scope (if needed).
A target mounted on a solid surface (like a wall).
Your smartphone, running the LaserHIT App.

Simply point your phone’s rear camera at the target area while the LaserHIT App is open, select the training Practice, specify your custom preferences of what you want to see in your result table and what you hear from your Virtual Spotter, and you are ready to train. No worries, after your initial Firing Range setup, you will not go over it again as the App will save your latest Settings for the next time you practice. Our latest PRO update for iOS includes a firearm preset library and environmental conditions. It introduces the first-of-its-kind dry firing with real-world DOPE-based ballistics.

This feature allows you to see a real-time ballistic drop and random wind drift with a realistic time of flight for each simulated shot. Unlike other apps that rely on generic magic formulas, our system integrates real-world ballistic data from reputable sources such as Hornady’s standard or DOF4 ballistics and GeoBallistics’ DOPE cards. You can even manually input your custom DOPE card from the field for the most authentic experience. It will also support multiple real-world linear and angular measurement units such as inch, cm, MOA, and MIL. We also extended customizable Target possibilities. Now you can select LaserHIT B3 targets to practice with usual Zone’s highlights, or get your own Custom targets (should be the same shape and solid dark color) and then assign a custom Vital zone with offset adjustments, or go further with Scoring map targets where you can assign custom score points to each specified, colored Zone. It was a "mind-blowing" feature we demonstrated at Shot Show 2025.

Proven Performance at Shot Show 2025

We are a "family-setup" business, who will never be "serious" just to make money without having a personal connection and friendship relation with our partners. That is why we gladly stepped in to create an entertainment setup with hunting targets in our friends, Falkor Defense booth.

Here’s a snapshot of the setup for our 300-yard Falkor challenge:

Ammo Specs: Hornady InterBond .308 WIN - 165gr, G1 B.C. 0.446, muzzle velocity 2600 fps
Scope: Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35x56mm MRAD reticle with a LASERHIT 55MM 12FT FOCUS ADAPTER
DOPE Card: Hornady Ballistic Standard (drop 1.3 MRAD at 300 yards)
Environment: Random crosswind (0-10 mph), Las Vegas altitude/weather
Target: Falkor Defense Moose paper target (100-300 yards)
Drill: Standing tripod, 1 shot in 60 seconds, scored for heart (10 points) and lungs (5 points)
Screen mirroring to TV: LaserHIT HDMI-cable (iOS)

Participants were impressed by the realism and attention to detail. They aimed at the real paper target, adjusted for random wind changes for each shot, applied a 1.3 MRAD holdover or dialing, and visually traced their hits. The app’s Virtual Spotter provided hit placement feedback, ensuring every shot felt as engaging as live fire.

Over the four-day event, 3,459 shots were fired—all without any wear on the rifle’s barrel or action. The Falkor Tego rifle performed flawlessly, demonstrating the durability and precision of Falkor’s excellence.

What’s Unique About LaserHIT Ballistic Targets?

For years, long-range shooters have used scaled targets to simulate real distances. LaserHIT takes this concept further by implementing ballistic drop, random wind drift, and scope reticle references in MOA/MRAD to make switching to temporary scope zeroing in confined spaces easier.

Our targets are assigned specific simulative distances and scoring map zones, which the LaserHIT App automatically recognizes. This gives hunters the unique ability to practice shooting at particular distances with customizable scoring for each vital organ zone under random wind and ballistic drop pressure.

Additionally, the target backgrounds are designed for flawless and rapid recognition by the software. A special feature, the "Reload Mark" on the right side of the target sheet, allows shooters to reset and restart their practice session directly from the firing line by shooting at a designated black square. This eliminates the need to walk back and forth to interact manually with the phone. Each target includes actual distance, target type, and a 1:1 scale reference for precise and practical training.

The feedback from ShotShow attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many were thrilled at the prospect of bringing this innovative long-range precision shooting dry-firing system into their homes or training facilities.
